As a psychologist-psychoanalyst, I am always curious, interested in what I see, hear and feel from the other person. I wonder what they are showing, sharing, and what is hidden and protected.
I took up photography twelve years ago and discovered the same process. Photographing what I am attracted to, being curious, wondering what the light and shadows reveal and hide, sensing my own interest and feelings and wondering how I can communicate all of this.
When I am focused in a session, time and distractions don’t exist. It is similar in photographing. I am completely absorbed and focused in what I am trying to capture. Sometimes I can communicate what I am sensing and seeing and others times I can’t. Just as in therapy, time is on my side and I can return and try again to see and understand and make my personal interpretations.
