I’ve been a photographer since age 10, when I received the gift of a brownie box camera. My next camera was also a film camera, a heavy metal Nikkormat. When digital came in I switched to Canon and started photographing birds and other wildlife. I now shoot anything that interests me, from street to architecture to wildlife to landscapes to macro. My style is fluid … I like to play with the photos and turn them into my own vision. I play with color and various other post-processing and in-camera experiments but stay away from the formulaic. I also have an ongoing love of Black and White for its ability to accentuate form and light, and to take an ordinary image and make it into something beyond the everyday.
For instance, Deer of My Dreams could easily have been in color but processing it in Black and White gives it a dreamlike quality that would otherwise be missing.
Also I have taken many images of sand dunes, but in the image Blue Dunes I focus in on a moment at dusk with the blowing sand creating different abstract patterns in the evening light and a slight color shift accentuates the deepening gloom.
